Dear Dr Sarker

We need your voice

I want to update you on the threats to your NHS pension, and on things you can do to fight them.

The Government is proposing
major changes which will mean GPs paying much more and working longer for a far worse deal on retirement.

While the Government has proved completely inflexible in negotiations, it has been running a very limited consultation on some of its plans.  We’ve been using this as an opportunity to voice the strength of opposition, with more than a thousand doctors responding so far.

The consultation closes on 21 October so if you haven’t already, I’d urge you to add your voice by submitting your own response or using our suggested text.

Industrial action is possible at a future date

Industrial action by doctors remains an option at a future date. In the event that a ballot takes place you will only be able to have your say if we have up-to-date place of work details for you. So I’d urge you to check your details today.

> Date for your diary - 30 November Day of Action
As you may be aware, there is a union-wide day of action on pensions on 30 November, which the BMA is supporting. We'll be sending campaign materials to all BMA members closer to the day, and we have new guidance on what you can do within legal constraints.
